Winter Tours & Activities

Snowcoach Tours & Transport

Vising Alaska only in the winter? No snowmachine? Spouse riding but you're not? Too windy?

We have the answer to these and other common winter problems!

Denali Highway Cabins & Paxson Alpine Tours is the proud owner of one of the few Snowcoaches in Alaska (we know of no others). This roomy, enclosed and heated sleigh can transport up to four persons anywhere our big working snowmobile - a quiet fourstroke Arctic Cat Bearcat - can travel.

Turn on the heater, turn off its light, snuggle into warm blankets we provide and enjoy the view as you are ferried to your own exclusive snow camp, where you can ski, snowshoe, or enjoy the fantastic winter photography. Ride includes thermos of hot chocolate or hot apple cider.

We'll drive you back to your cabin, or you can return by snowshoe (most leisurely), by cross-country ski (faster), or by snowbike (fastest).

There is no easier way to access the remote winter landscape of the Alaska Range.

Fare is $1.25/mile for one person; 25 cents per person per mile for additional riders. Minimum fare is $40.

Snowbike
Ride a Winner!

Our snowbike is one of Alaska's own "Fat Bikes", crafted in Palmer. Fat Bikes have been created to permit Alaskan bicycle enthusiasts to continue their riding in winter, and have oversized frames to fit very oversized tires.

Anchorage racing legend, the indomitable Pete Basinger, rode our bike to victory in the 2006 Iditarod Trail Invitational, formerly the Iditasport Extreme. Run along the first 350 miles of the Iditarod dog sled course, prior to mushers traversing it, this is called by many the single toughest race on the planet.

Now you can experience it too - on the far less extreme, groomed winter Denali Highway.

Rental from cabins, for trails and hwy: $50 day use
Multi-day rental: $40 per day
Snowbike transport with Snowcoach: add $25 fee to Snowcoach price

Arctic Man

Once a year the otherwise almost unpopulated Paxson area turns into the state's third- or fourth-largest town. Join in the fun of the world's largest snowmachine festival, and come up, come down, come on over to participate in Arctic Man! Centered around the Arctic Man Ski and Sno-Go Classic - a uniquely Alaskan race that truly is one of the world's most extreme sports events, this multi-day end of winter blowout provides a way for Alaskans to enjoy the world's best snow in the continent's tallest mountains, all in the warm sun of mid-April.
Well, warm-ish. Are you one of those who still yearn for fun during the day but are tired of the cold motorhomes, of the dribbling or non-existent showers, and perhaps even of all those endless nights? Denali Highway Cabins is the quiet alternative to the glacier party: our guests are those who participate in everything the glacier and the Denali Highway have to offer, but then can get away from it all at the evening's end and return to a warm, peaceful, comfortable, fully plumbed cabin. We are a ten minute drive or a ten-mile ride to Arctic Man, but a world away.

We do NOT allow any raucous behavior on our compound. If you want to party and drink til the wee hours, you may be more comfortable renting a spot at the glacier.

Cabins book out quickly. Minimum reservation is for three nights. Maximum guests in regular cabins: 4 persons; Guest House: eight persons.
2010 rates are provided in the following table
. All rates include all taxes. A 50% deposit is due at time of reservation, refundable minus $100 through Feb 1, 2010. Balance due by March 1, 2010. This balance is refundable through April 1, 2010 only if we subsequently can rent the cabin. Early bird rates apply to reservations made before November 1.

As of March 12, we have VERY limited availability still remaining for Arctic Man 2010. Call now!

Note that rates are independent of the number of guests; for your convenience, the bottom half of the table shows the per-person rates assuming the cabin or house maximum.
