In the Heart of the Alaska Range
At the junction of the Richardson and Denali Highways
Year-round lodging and outdoor activities

Cabins stretch along the spectacular upper Gulkana River

The cabins are located as close to the Gulkana River as we can place them - you will never be bothered by road noise, bar noise, generator noise, guy-next-door snoring noise, dogsled kennel noise - only the wonderful sound of the river.

Denali Highway Cabins offer what many visitors and natives call Alaska's finest road-accessible lodging. Its modern, spacious, fully electrified and heated riversound log cabins treat guests to spectacular mountain views. Queen beds, barbecue/reading decks, full baths with separate water heaters in each cabin, dvd/vcr, wonderful absolutely homemade breakfast items available - no expense has been spared to make visitors want to stay for days and days.

We are a small operation, housing a maximum of around 30 guests per night. We offer the individualized attention and hospitality that you cannot find at larger cabin operations.

Paxson Alpine Tours is the original, longest-established nature tour company along the Denali and Richardson Highways, and offers the most diverse array of activities in the region. The Tours offer a wonderful complement to the Cabins. Join host Dr. Audubon L. Bakewell IV, co-author of American Birding Association's "A Birder's Guide to Alaska", on any of our year-round activities. We offer our acclaimed Evening Scenic Float Trip every feasible day throughout the summer. Narrated by our naturalist, many visitors have called this non-whitewater three-hour journey through our boreal forest river system a highlight of their trip to Alaska. With its waterfowl and shorebirds, its possibilities for up-close and unhurried views of moose and beaver feeding, and in season the upper Gulkana River's fabulous sockeye salmon run and the eagles that feast on them, guests have the chance for unparalleled scenic photography.

We also conduct daily birdwatching and wildflower tours in season. The high tundra of the Denali Highway is home to a combination of birds unmatched in North America. Birders flock to this region for its high concentrations of breeding Smith's longspur, arctic warbler, gyrfalcon, and many more.

What is the weather like right now in Paxson? We are a National Weather Service recording station. Click here (for weather report quoted in Eastern Time). For the last 24 hours of reports (in NWS METAR format) click here.
