Log Cabins

Our cabins provide the quintessential image of lodging in the North Country without sacrificing any comfort. The hand-built log cabins are spacious, fully electrified and heated; all have full bathrooms with individual water heaters and they all stretch along the property in ample fashion to ensure privacy, quiet and relaxation. Parking is directly adjacent to each cabin for the ease of any who have limited mobility. Each cabin sports a south-facing reading deck bathed in afternoon and evening sunlight. All cabins are located far away from any road or man-made noise - guests hear only the wonderful soothing sound of the Gulkana River. Every unit is oriented to gain maximum exposure to Paxson Mountain.

The Wickersham and Argonaut cabins are slightly closer to the river than the Vox and Alvin cabins and have a somewhat larger floorplan with more expansive decks. They are spaced further apart from each other for maximum privacy. The Wickersham and Argonaut bathrooms contain a bathtub as well as a shower (Vox and Alvin contain only a shower), and they have some additional other amenities.

All our cabins have one king bed while the Vox and Alvin cabins have an additional full bed.

  • The Wickersham Cabin

This is our most private cabin, with a king bed and memory foam mattress. The Wickersham is also the cabin closest to the river, although water views fluctuate through the season. This cabin also includes a comfortable couch, writing desk, extra chairs, plush bathrobes and a shoe-warming rack. Its bathroom's sink and vanity are outside the shower/toilet room yet are quite private from the rest of the cabin. The southerly views of its oversized deck look out on to nothing but nature: across the river towards Paxson Mountain. Full log walls, high ceiling and interior honey spruce paneling throughout evoke roominess and luxury at the same time as preserving the tradition of a genuine log cabin. The Wickersham sleeps a maximum of two persons.

"These cabins are simply great by all standards. Nice log cabin in the middle of rural Alaska with all the luxury possible and a porch overlooking the river. What else could you want?!" - jeeper1, TripAdvisor.com member, August 28, 2011

This cabin is named for Judge James Wickersham, a statesman, author, historian, scholar, and intrepid explorer of interior Alaska in the early years of this Territory.

  • The Argonaut Cabin

The Argonaut cabin has an 11 foot high ceiling, enormous full log rafters with a 14 foot deck looking out over the fireweed flowers to Paxson Mountain. Guests sleep on a California king size, memory foam mattress. The extra length of a California king mattress provides taller guests with the sleep comfort that only this mattress provides. It also features a comfortable sofa-bed, writing desk, extra chairs, plush bathrobes, and a shoe-warming rack. Its bathroom's sink and vanity are outside the shower/toilet room yet are quite private from the rest of the cabin. The Argonaut sleeps a maximum of three adults, or two adults and two youths.

This cabin is named for the gold-seekers who were the early pioneers of the Valdez-Fairbanks trail (what is now the Richardson Highway.)

  • The Alvin Cabin

This log cabin receives the full sound of the river and shares the same view of Paxson Mountain as the other cabins and is ample-sized with 12 foot ceilings. Its bathroom contains a shower (no tub); the vanity and sink are in the main room, not in the bathroom. The Alvin has a Sealy Posturpedic pillow-top king bed, and a Serta Perfect Sleeper full bed in a raised alcove with a step. This cabin sleeps a maximum of four persons, ideal for families traveling with small children (they love the raised bed!), or for two to three adults. We do recommend that two couples traveling together rent Isabel's Cottage or two separate cabins (a full bed is a tight squeeze for most couples.)

Named for Alvin J. Paxson, the eponymous founder of our wilderness outpost over 100 years ago, the Alvin is our standard cabin with the best view and most privacy.
